Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises, without having to wait to advertise. If there is an interest or need within the specific department, applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by respective department supervisors, deans, or division chairs. Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years. The starting salary range is $66.00 per hour; the hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.
Representative Duties
This position is for a part‑time adjunct pool that will staff assignments at Bakersfield Community College Main Campus.
The successful applicant will provide instruction in public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and small group communication. The assignment may also include opportunities to teach rhetoric, argumentation, persuasion, organizational communication, leadership, and health communication.
Assignments may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and large classes, using multiple teaching methodologies. All communication courses are taught using face‑to‑face, in‑class instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication
- OR – Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English
- OR – The equivalent (as evaluated by the department).
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Degrees from outside the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
