Job Summary
Has overall responsibility for developing, writing and editing internal publications. Disseminates material about university research, academics, activities, events and awards.
Key Responsibilities
- Research university programs for potential story ideas to generate positive public interest and identify appropriate outlets for specific story interests.
- Maintain regular contact with university and college administrators regarding ongoing academic and related programs; keep abreast of faculty research, teaching and service activities to generate story ideas.
- Conduct interviews and investigate selected activities to write stories for various internal publications.
- Develop and implement strategies/plans for conferences and other significant programs or events; develop communications plans to address potential problems.
- Identify, research and write feature stories for university magazine(s), including photo and illustration planning and editing.
- Provide work direction and guidance to interns.
- Plan and edit departmental publications, websites, and electronic newsletters.
- Support updates to chatbots and websites, collaborate with departments to gather materials and organize written communications.
- Determine content needs, select and research subjects, conduct interviews, and ensure factual accuracy.
- Provide writing and editing services for other communication projects as assigned.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job‑related experience.
- MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in‑depth specialized training program related to the type of work performed.
