Overview
Aurora Hsaio and Lisa Ortiz are seeking a backfill for a Design Lead on a contract-to-hire basis. The role supports a net-new product within a bank’s startup-like line of business. The team values design leadership, process, and cross-functional collaboration.
Location and Work Arrangements
Ideally NYC-based with a hybrid in NYC; open to fully remote or contract-only candidates. Some flexibility on rate. Remote arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
Lead design work, own a track of work, and coordinate with other designers to deliver project outcomes.
Design and push design work forward in collaboration with product leads and development teams.
Partner with compliance and billing teams as part of the product design process.
Work on strategy of design and see initiatives through to completion; own the design process from ideation to delivery.
Design for content-heavy software applications (web/desktop; mobile is nice-to-have) with flows, site maps, and wireframe forms.
Collaborate with product owners to gather requirements, propose solutions, and refine design through iterations when requirements are not fully defined upfront.
Lead with Figma and work with Jira/Trello; contribute to and maintain the design system in place.
Lead and participate in cross-functional sessions; speak to work with stakeholders and demonstrate design thinking in portfolios.
Qualifications
Strong portfolio with case studies showing design thinking, collaboration with product and development teams, and contributions to the project lifecycle.
Experience delivering UX and UI design for content-heavy software applications; ability to map flows, create site maps, and wireframe forms.
Proficiency with Figma is a must.
Experience partnering with product managers, development leads, compliance, and billing teams.
Ability to lead, own a track of work, and coordinate among team members in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in solving complex issues and navigating different stories across teams; comfort with not having all requirements upfront.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams; not a purely marketing designer.
Experience with design systems and iterative delivery using agile tools; Jira and Trello are a plus.
Interview and Hiring Process
Interview format includes 2-3 team member interviews in 30-minute slots, plus a final interview with leadership.
Portfolio must be submitted with the resume, including case studies that show the design process and contributions.
Three to four rounds of interviews anticipated; links to portfolios are required.
