Web Developer
Position summary: The Web Developer develops and maintains University of Richmond public websites and web applications. The role primarily performs back‑end development tasks, web operations, and user support within a modern web environment. The position collaborates closely with University Communications and Information Services teams to help maintain reliable web systems and provide technical assistance to users.

Base pay range $55,640.00/yr – $73,736.00/yr
Job duties / responsibilities
Develop, test, deploy, and maintain back‑end web applications, system integrations, and support tools for the university's public web infrastructure.
Configure, troubleshoot, and provide training for Cascade CMS users to enable effective website management.
Develop code and evaluate pilot projects for emerging technology platforms, including SpiderAI and MessageAI, contributing to the experimentation, integration, and enhancement of generative AI and other web‑based digital services.
Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to support project delivery and timely resolution of technical issues.
Contribute to documentation and training materials for web systems and technologies.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of back‑end web development languages. Experience with Python, Apache Velocity, and/or xQuery preferred.
Working knowledge of content management systems. Experience with Cascade configuration, development and troubleshooting preferred.
Experience working with RESTful APIs, ETL workflows, and system integrations.
Experience interfacing applications with generative AI APIs preferred.
Familiarity with front‑end web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
Familiarity with web security best practices and secure coding principles.
General knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
Basic understanding of Linux or Unix command line and version control systems such as Git.
Ability to learn new programming languages and technologies quickly.
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to provide technical support to diverse user groups.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Education & experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field required.
1–3 years of experience in web development or related IT roles preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
Work schedule
Full‑time, exempt.
Monday–Friday 8:30 AM–5:00 PM; occasional evening hours may be required.
Pay structure
Pay Grade 7 (Hiring range $55,640.00–$73,736.00 annually).
