Senior Publicist
Summary
Union Square & Co. is looking for a highly motivated, energetic, and creative Senior Publicist to manage publicity across adult and gift & specialty imprints, overseeing publicity campaigns for titles across categories such as narrative nonfiction, pen & paper puzzles, memoirs, cooking, lifestyle, and design.
Responsibilities
Publicizing titles on the Union Square & Co. list from acquisition through publication and sustainment, including booking national and local media and managing author events and tours.
Maintaining close relationships and coordinating with author franchise and brand teams for book‑specific support.
Developing and maintaining close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio/podcasts, print/digital, trades), seeking out new media outlets and brainstorming creative ideas on how to best promote titles.
Presenting publicity strategy & campaigns at key meetings with editors, sales, authors, agents, including seasonal sales conferences, and via media alerts.
Creating media lists and innovative press materials (press releases, pitch & galley letters, author Q&As, etc.).
Collaborating with key in‑house departments, including Editorial, Marketing, and Sales.
Developing and maintaining relationships with booksellers around the country, as well as off‑site and lecture event venues.
Providing attentive author care, including briefing authors for interviews and accompanying authors to publicity engagements.
Qualifications
4‑year college degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 4 years of publicity experience in professional public relations or book publishing
Strong knowledge of national and regional media
Cookbook/Lifestyle and/or celebrity publicity experience a plus
Interest in and a passion for books
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment
Poise and confidence in communicating with authors, agents, media, and in‑house colleagues
Experience and demonstrated success managing author tours, book launches, and press events
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
Knowledge of the media, marketplace, and competition
Ability to escort authors, including the ability to travel domestically with authors when needed
Proficiency with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Outlook, etc.
Familiarity with Net Galley, Muck Rack, Podchaser, and Edelweiss a plus
Compensation $65,000–$75,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
