JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing operation of a regional audiovisual archive that preserves, digitizes, catalogs, and provides access to broadcast history and other audio and moving image materials. This position oversees staff, budget, and resources to ensure long-term preservation and public accessibility of materials and works collaboratively with internal and external partners to advance the Librarys mission.

Job Requirements

Education: Masters degree in media archive, media preservation studies or a related field preferred, Bachelors degree required.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years professional experience in a film, video, or broadcast archive with digitization and cataloging responsibilities.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising or leading a team of professionals.
  • Five (5) years experience managing budgets and spending required.
  • Experience designing and executing special events, exhibits and productions is preferred.
  • Involvement with professional organizations, such as the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), is preferred.

Technical Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of audiovisual preservation (physical and digital formats).
  • Strong knowledge of cataloging standards, metadata schemas, and archival description for audiovisual materials within a library environment.
  • Experience with digital asset management and media asset management systems.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property rights and licensing in audiovisual contexts.
  • Knowledge of news content and practices, including b?roll and video clip cataloging.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, build collaborations, and represent the Library with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and digital communication tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive plan for the NEOBA audiovisual archive.
  • Lead staff in all phases of the development and operation of the NEOBA audiovisual archive, such as inventory, rehousing, cleaning, digitization, editing, cataloging, public access, preservation and management of digital files.
  • Define requirements and oversee implementation of project management processes, equipment acquisition, digital storage, and public access systems in collaboration with CPL IT. Collaborate with IT to establish digital infrastructure, MAM systems, and user access interfaces.
  • Identify, define, and manage licensing agreements and intellectual property considerations, working with Legal to draft and finalize documents.
  • Prepare grant applications and support fundraising initiatives.
  • Market and promote the archive to external audiences and community partners.
  • Assist in planning and monitoring an annual budget for respective area(s). Demonstrate fiscal accountability for resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources. Approve expenditures for respective areas.
  • Provides strategic leadership, training, and guidance to assigned staff. Manages dynamic workload and reassign staff resources as business needs change. Sets teams performance objectives, monitors, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Attend programs and meetings that involve key community stakeholders and/or are intended to address key strategic initiatives or priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with directors, managers and staff in the execution of plans and programs. Coordinate efforts between specified area and other departments.
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards for archive operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

External Posting: Open Until Filled

Compensation starting salary range is $90,000 to $105,000 and will be based on qualifications and professional background. The Library provides 22 vacation days annually, sick & personal time, generous medical & dental coverage, life insurance, OPERS retirement benefits, and participation in Ohio Deferred Compensation.
