Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of University Communication, the Multimedia Content Specialist plays an important role in bringing UNC Asheville's story to life through compelling writing, photography, and video. They must be adept at conducting interviews that capture authentic voices and perspectives, then shaping those insights into narratives that connect with diverse audiences, including current students, prospective students, employees, parents, alumni, key stakeholders, and community members. The Multimedia Content Specialist will also demonstrate strong editing and repurposing skills, transforming feature-length stories into shorter, impactful content for websites and digital media channels. A key responsibility will be supporting and enhancing all internal and external communications initiatives to clearly convey how the University supports University stories and initiatives in alignment with its goals, objectives, and brand. In addition, the Multimedia Content Specialist produces high-quality, digital photos and videos that elevate the University's brand, while utilizing the latest available technologies to help ensure content is relevant and is created in a timely manner. The person in this position will need to develop and maintain productive, strategic relationships with campus clients, including faculty, staff, and administrators. Additionally, this position will serve in a consultant role for campus colleagues in writing and editing related positions.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media Arts, Photography, Film/Videography, or another related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in communications, journalism, photography, videography, public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design, or related field, preferably within higher education.
  • Experience working in a television newsroom, community college/university or related setting in marketing, public information or communications.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, Photoshelter, or similar platforms.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to conduct meaningful interviews and capture authentic voices.
  • Highly creative and able to tell a story in writing and through photo/video, including editing, proofing, and polishing.
  • Ability to adapt stories for different platforms, audiences, and formats (e.g., feature articles, short-form social, reels, newsletters).
  • Knowledgeable of photographic skills and understands lighting both on location and in the studio.
  • Ability to produce photographs using a digital SLR camera.
  • Ability to produce and edit videos through Adobe Premiere Pro or other related video software.
  • Demonstrated ability to use digital technology to successfully capture images, video segments, and audio both on location and in a studio setting.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing strategies and how storytelling supports brand goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to concentrate and contribute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to travel and work outside of normal business hours both on- and off-campus as required.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.



Work Schedule and Hours
Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The employee in this position will be required to work some evenings and weekends as needed to meet the needs of the department and the university. Ability to work varied work hours and have a flexible schedule is essential in this position.
