Job Description Summary The MUSC Office of Communications and Marketing is looking for a visionary Senior Graphic Designer to help shape the future of our brand. Reporting to the Senior Director of Brand Strategy, this role will be instrumental in shaping, expanding, and evolving the visual expression of the MUSC brand – crafting design systems and creative assets that reflect our identity, push it forward, and build a lasting design legacy that resonates, inspires, and grows with every touchpoint, all in support of MUSC’s mission to lead health innovation and its vision for a healthier South Carolina. Key Responsibilities Visual Design and Brand Development (30%) Evolve and elevate the MUSC visual identity across print, digital, web, presentation, and environmental platforms. Develop strategic, visually compelling design systems and assets. Build scalable, reusable templates (PowerPoint, Canva, email, social) to extend brand consistency across departments. Ensure excellence and cohesion across all touchpoints while driving creative innovation. Contribute to the development and refinement of brand guidelines and visual standards. Creative Collaboration and Concepting (25%) Partner with writers, strategists, and marketing teams to bring integrated campaigns and content to life – aligning creative direction to achieve intended outcomes and support enterprise goals. Collaborate with web, content, photographers and video teams for cohesive storytelling across platforms. Ignite the brand with fresh, audience‑driven ideas that engage and inspire. Provide art direction and mentorship to designers and freelancers. Production and Project Execution (20%) Lead multiple design projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality, timing, and brand alignment. Deliver production‑ready artwork across media in collaboration with vendors and teams. Maintain organized files and streamlined workflows. Brand Education and Internal Engagement (20%) Advance internal brand education through visual tools, templates, and training resources. Champion a culture of design excellence and brand stewardship enterprise wide. Contribute to presentations and workshops that inspire creative best practices. Other duties (5%) Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s in graphic design, Visual Communication, or related field. Experience: 7+ years in graphic design, ideally within a creative agency or in‑house team, with a focus on health care or academic environments. Skills: Strong conceptual thinking and a refined visual aesthetic. Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); proficiency in PowerPoint and Canva; familiarity with motion graphics, video editing, Figma or other design tools a plus. Ability to develop scalable, repeatable template systems that ensure brand consistency across teams. Experience in medical or academic environments. Familiarity with scientific illustration and data visualization. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, from brand identity to integrated campaigns, with execution across digital and print media. Understanding of HIPAA compliance in visual communications. Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles. Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience; 7 years progressive work experience and 2 years management experience.
