The ideal candidate should bring energy and intensity to coverage of the most important political stories, personalities, and issues. Covering the White House, Congress, state governors, and debates that galvanize voters, the reporter will help tell stories in distinct ways using video, podcasts, graphics, and other media. Must deliver quick‑turn analyses and deeply reported pieces that reveal new insights into people and events. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of making politics come alive for readers and an expansive view of the beat, pulling back the curtain on how leaders and voters are changing each other. This position is based in the Washington bureau. You Will Break agenda‑setting news on the beat. Conceptualize and deliver deeply reported enterprise stories. Work with colleagues around the country and the world in a global newsroom. You Have At least five years of reporting experience on a competitive beat and a track record of award‑winning journalism. Deadline skills to report and write clearly under pressure. Proven ability to develop sources and write with authority on events and meanings. A track record of tackling ambitious projects, original approaches to coverage, and working with visuals for creative storytelling. A deep understanding of U.S. politics and ability to tell stories from every corner of the country.
