Founded in 1992, After‑School All‑Stars is a national non‑profit that provides free, daily after‑school programs to more than 150,000 children in need at 728 schools and community sites in 18 chapters across the U.S. Our mission is to keep children healthy and active, help them graduate high school, go on to college and ultimately find a fulfilling career while giving back to their communities. We achieve this by identifying each child’s passions and linking them to tailored academic, enrichment and health & fitness programming.

Position Overview

We are seeking a driven Grant Writer to join our National Development team. The role focuses on identifying, writing and managing high‑quality grant applications for foundations, corporate and government funders that primarily support the national organization. This is a full‑time, in‑person position based in Los Angeles, with four days in the office (Mon‑Thu) and remote work on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate impeccably written proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitation requirements.
  • Coordinate with finance to create expenditure and income budgets for proposals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about children, staff and prospects.
  • Identify and track foundation, corporate and government grant opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach to prospect contacts and follow up as needed.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to research, develop, write and submit proposals, letters of inquiry and concept papers.
  • Develop project plans and ensure all deliverables are submitted on time.
  • Assume ownership of grant schedules and tracking.
  • Maintain relationships with funders, track reporting deadlines and submit required reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of nonprofit grant writing or equivalent writing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills with required writing samples.
  • Experience securing grants and managing grant proposals.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Advanced research skills and established grant relationships preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to customer service.
  • High level of organization, flexibility and initiative.
  • Ability to work autonomously, multi‑task and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative team‑player who thrives cross‑departmentally.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $85,000‑$90,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
