Join Inside Higher Ed as an Editor – Student Hourly for The University Daily Kansan. This is a student position focused on overseeing content creation and maintaining editorial quality for the university’s primary news source.
Position Overview
The mission of The University Daily Kansan is to serve as a primary, credible news source for the University community.
- Editing assignments: 50% of your time will be spent editing material produced by content generators.
- Assignments to generators: 40% of your time involves delegating tasks and providing guidance to content generators.
- Meetings & training: 10% of your time will be dedicated to attending editorial meetings and professional development sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester of appointment. For summer terms, must have completed at least 6 hours in the prior spring semester or be pre‑enrolled for the upcoming fall semester, or be enrolled in summer session or admitted to the upcoming fall semester.
- Student Hourly may be an undergraduate or graduate student. GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with editorial workflows or student journalism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Employment Conditions
- Hourly, non‑exempt position.
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless approved by unit leadership and HR.
- Cannot hold a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
Compensation & Logistics
Salary: $12.50 per hour
Location: Bonner Springs, KS
