Job Description

The Macdonald‑Kelce Library seeks a front‑line Part‑Time Library Technical Assistant to serve patrons during weekend hours.

The assistant will perform circulation duties, supervise student assistants, manage phone and visitor interactions, inventory tasks, and fill in for supervisors.

Essential Functions

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all library patrons.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public.
  • Supervise and train student assistants.
  • Perform circulation functions such as charging/discharging items, resolving patron matters, stack maintenance, and inventory participation.
  • Instruct and assist patrons with library equipment (scanners, computers, printers, microfilm readers, etc.).
  • Assist in sorting and shelving returned materials.
  • Monitor library entrance and public areas for policy compliance.
  • Perform opening and closing duties.
  • Participate in inventory projects and shelf maintenance to enhance service quality.
  • Contribute to a work environment that respects cultural diversity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as designated by the department.
  • Preferred: One year of library experience.
  • Basic computer operations knowledge.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn University of Tampa software such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to perform other library clerical and operational support duties.

Work Schedule

• Academic year: Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

• Summer: Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Hours will not exceed 29 hours or 1000 hours per calendar year.
