Position Title: Communications Specialist

Overview The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting in the creation and execution of admissions marketing communications in multiple formats to target prospective students during each phase of the admissions cycle. This position contributes through individual and collaborative work to innovate and complete projects. The Communications Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Digital Strategy and Marketing.

Responsibilities

Write and edit messaging in multiple formats: digital, video, print, email, social media and text communications, aimed at prospective students and other related audiences.

Coordinate publication design and production with vendor partners, the DSM team, and the Assistant Director.

Work with university staff to create specific recruitment materials.

Coordinate with the Admissions team to provide event-specific supplemental publications and assets.

Create and utilize digital and print graphics in admissions marketing to enhance messaging and present the university brand to solicit admissions options.

Adhere to web accessibility best practices in digital presentation.

Develop and implement branded print and digital design materials for web graphics, emails, social media content and print publications.

Review Admissions website content and UIW community-submitted updates to ensure content is accurate and current while incorporating best practices.

Review UIW website content and update to established style standards.

Assist in the review and performance monitoring of the chatbot and AI-tool content.

Create and assist UIW staff with executing text messaging.

Perform other communication-related duties as assigned.

Create and post engaging social media content on assigned topics and monitor trends across UIW admissions accounts.

Collaborate with UIW administrative offices to reinforce the UIW brand through admissions content and materials, and engage with third-party vendors, online aggregators, and partners to keep paid and organic messaging/listings accurate.

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient graphics skills with InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator;

Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills;

Strong ability to organize, manage and meet goals/project deliverables using innovative concepts with a detail-oriented work style;

Ability to effectively meet short deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment;

Proficient skills in creating and managing engaging social media content across multiple platforms;

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with internal stakeholders;

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.

Required Work Experience One (1) year of professional or graduate assistant experience in a communications/marketing position developing and executing promotional materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or Photography.

Higher education experience in this field.

Experience with video and photo editing.

Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email vendors.

Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and functional HTML.

Strong graphics skills with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None specified.

Work Hours Typically Mon-Fri 8am – 5pm with occasional extended hours required to meet departmental goals and support special events.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs of marketing materials.

Ability to push/pull equipment carts with materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

Ability to actively engage in assigned events for extended periods of time.

Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to create marketing content.
