This is for an onsite position in our Elkridge, MD office. Position Overview: The Traffic Control Plan Designer is responsible for developing safe, compliant, and efficient temporary traffic control plans for roadway projects. The Traffic Control Plan Designer ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal guidelines while balancing safety, efficiency, and accessibility for workers, motorists, and pedestrians. The Traffic Control Plan Designer works closely with project managers, permit coordinators, field employees, and clients to translate the job site requirements into clear, detailed, and approved traffic control plans. Responsibilities and Duties Create detailed traffic control plans (TCPs) using CAD or similar design software in accordance with MUTCD, DOT, and local jurisdiction standards. Review project scopes, site maps, and specifications to determine appropriate traffic control layouts. Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, estimators, and permit team members to ensure that plans are accurate and feasible for implementation. Incorporate safety standards and best practices into plan designs to minimize risk to workers and public. Modify and update existing plans based on feedback from clients, inspectors, or field conditions. Maintain accurate files, electronic and printed, and documentation for all project-related drawings. Assist the permitting process by preparing and submitting plans to municipalities or DOT agencies. Keep current with changes in traffic control regulations, design standards, and software tools. Support the operations team with technical advice related to traffic control layouts and requirements. Other Duties as assigned Qualifications Associates degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or related field, preferred. 1-3 years of experience in traffic control design, civil drafting, or roadway construction, preferred. Familiarity with MUTCD, state DOT standards, and traffic control regulations. Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with the ability to multi-task Able to work independently and/or as part of a team Able to communicate effectively, verbally and written, as well as in a professional manner Familiarity with office equipment and Microsoft Office products Physical Requirements This is a general description of the physical requirements for the position it is not intended to describe the entirety of the position. There may be other demands that arise out of the Position Duty “Other duties as assigned” that require more or altered physical capabilities. The individual in this position must be able to sit for extended periods of time while performing general administrative duties. Furthermore, the individual in the position must be able to stand, walk, and occasionally bend to complete their responsibilities and tasks either permitting or posting. This individual must be able to lift and/or carry items as heavy as 40 pounds unassisted.
