Position Overview
The Development and Communications Director will lead CCCC's fundraising, donor engagement, and external communications efforts to ensure long-term sustainability and increase awareness of our mission. As a quickly- growing organization, this role seeks to build and align Communications and Development activities that reinforce each other and the organization's overall mission. This role combines strategic thinking, creativity, and hands-on execution to build relationships, tell compelling stories, and inspire action for an organization that has expanded rapidly over the past three years and plans to add more services, including opening an Overdose Prevention Center should the law allow. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Operations team, Community Engagement Director, and program staff to align development and communication efforts with CCCC's mission and goals, proactively recruit new supporters, and maintain current funding.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Fundraising (65%)
Develop and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including projects related to annual giving, major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and special events. Ensure that campaigns are targeted to and are reaching the correct audiences. Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners to meet revenue goals. Research and write grant proposals and manage grant reporting in collaboration with program staff, including responding to state and local government RFPs. Manage grant reporting calendar and collaborate with CCCC staff to ensure timely reports. Oversee donor database management, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely acknowledgments. Coordinate the Board of Directors' Fundraising Committee, facilitating meetings and supporting the management of board fundraising projects. Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including online giving and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives. Collaborate on budgeting and revenue forecasting with the Executive Director and finance team. Communications and Marketing (25%)
Develop and execute a strategic communications plan to enhance CCCC's visibility and engage diverse audiences. Supervise content creation for digital platforms, including website, email newsletters, and social media channels. Ensure consistent and compelling messaging across all materials to reflect CCCC's mission and impact. Generate organizational communications materials, including our annual report. Serve as the primary media contact and coordinate press releases, media outreach, crisis communications, and public relations efforts. Leadership and Collaboration (10%)
Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making. Train and support staff and volunteers to engage in fundraising and communication activities. Represent CCCC at community events, donor meetings, in the media, and other public forums. Identify and implement new tools and technologies - grants management systems, project management platforms, etc. - to enhance fundraising and communication efficiency. Qualifications
Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising and communications, with a track record of meeting revenue goals through individual major donors, private foundations, and/or government contracts. Exceptional writing, storytelling, and communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences. Experience developing and managing crisis communications plans is a plus. Passion for harm reduction, public health, and social justice in Baltimore. Proficiency in CRM systems - we use MonkeyPod for both organizational communications and donor data, but knowledge of any CRM (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, etc.) will translate easily. Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge of the Baltimore philanthropy community is a plus.
