SUGARSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION
Unpaid 4-month Contract - Up to 40 hours a week
The Sugarship at 1Milk2Sugars is a structured, for-credit educational experience designed to complement academic studies in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing. This internship offers hands-on exposure to the PR industry while working closely with experienced professionals who provide ongoing mentorship and learning opportunities.
This internship is unpaid and offered exclusively to students who will receive academic credit through their post-secondary institution. A formal agreement with the student's school will be required.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of PR agency operations
- Develop and refine writing skills for press releases and media pitches
- Learn how to monitor and analyze media coverage
- Gain familiarity with industry-standard PR tools and databases
- Participate in team brainstorming, research, and campaign planning sessions
- Build a starter portfolio including media-facing content and research summaries
All training and tasks will be supervised by experienced PR professionals. Activities may include:
- Media Literacy Development: Shadow media monitoring and learn how coverage is tracked and analyzed
- Writing Practice: Draft sample media pitches and press materials with editorial feedback
- Research Assignments: Conduct research on influencers, venues, or media trends for learning purposes
- Campaign Observation: Sit in on internal meetings to understand the lifecycle of PR campaigns
- Admin & Shadowing: Learn basic project coordination techniques through shadowing team members
- Skill Workshops: Attend internal learning sessions on tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Mailchimp
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program
- Must receive school credit for the internship (required documentation will be collected prior to start date)
- Must be available at least 3 days/week in person at our NYC office
- Able to commit to internship dates: January 5, 2026 to May 7, 2026 (some flexibility possible)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in PR, media, and/or brand storytelling
- Enthusiastic, curious, and ready to learn in a fast-paced environment
- One-on-one mentorship and feedback from PR professionals
- A portfolio of original work created under guided supervision
- Exposure to PR tools and industry processes
- Weekly learning check-ins and performance reviews
- Certificate of completion and reference letter upon request
