Dorchester County Public Schools is accepting applications for potential Music Teachers that may become available for the 2025-2026 school year at all levels. Responsibilities include providing strategies, resources, and instruction to enable students to meet the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, under the direction of the school principal and the Supervisor of English Learners, Instructional Technology, Library-Media, and Fine Arts.

Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals, including teaching General Music and Chorus, and preparing students for choral competitions and festivals.
  • Instructs assigned classes consistently at designated locations and times.
  • Creates a classroom environment that involves students in the learning process and helps each student achieve learning objectives.
  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Guides learning toward curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
  • Sets learning objectives aligned with the DCPS curriculum framework and knowledge of human growth and development.
  • Plans and utilizes instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques to motivate and enable student achievement.
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities as needed and provides input to student IEPs in collaboration with central staff.
  • Maintains safety for students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law, DCPS policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Supports administration in enforcing policies governing student life and conduct; establishes reasonable classroom rules and maintains order fairly.
  • Makes themselves available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required or requested.
  • Establishes respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers; may evaluate assistant performance with department heads or administrators.
  • Appraises personal effectiveness and pursues ongoing professional development.
  • Participates in school management and contributes to the total school program.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possess, or be eligible for, a Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with an endorsement in Music PreK-12.
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum, curriculum integration techniques, DCPS policies, and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Proficiency in the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards.
  • Understanding of the Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
