Overview

SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (VISUAL IMPAIRED)

Base pay range: $18.04/hr. 6.5 hours per day, 191 days per year. The Canton City Preschool Program notes that actual pay will be based on skills and experience; talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Responsibilities

• Does supportive tutoring for the teacher
• Assists the teacher in daily classroom functions
• Learns rudiments of Braille reading so as to assist Braille readers
• Assists on field trips and walking trips in the immediate environment
• Performs general housekeeping skills such as putting equipment away
• Prepares tapes for the different subjects
• Understands and maintains the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified staff
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Educational Aide Permit
• Honesty

• Language skills and reading proficiency
• Cooperate and get along with others
• Work as a member of a team

Desirable

• Experience with or interest in visually impaired
• Manipulates skills for craft work and Braille
• Creative skills
• Sensitivity to the educational needs of handicapped children

Highly Qualified & Application

Applicants ALL for the above positions are REQUIRED to be Highly Qualified, which is defined as: Two (2) years of college (Minimum of 48 Semester Hours, or 72 Quarter Hours), or possess an Associate\'s Degree, or passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam.

Applicants must submit a copy of their Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam results, or a copy of their college transcript(s) to verify their Highly Qualified Status. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit, or obtain one immediately upon being employed with the Canton City School District. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
