REPORTS TO: DIR. ACCESS SERVICES AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Brief Description: The Fuller Writing Center helps students improve their writing skills in regard to content, form, and expression, to meet and exceed the standards of scholarly writing for their respective school and degree program. Its consultants meet with students one-on-one as well as in group workshop settings to provide resources and guidance in every stage of the writing process. The Writing Center consultant will support students enrolled in English-language degree and certificate programs, synchronously and asynchronously. This specific role needs to be fluent in both English and Korean.

Essential Functions: Administration

Correspond with the Director on a regular basis

Maintain contact with the Director regarding student needs related to Writing Center resources and services

Record essential information from each consultation provided in an online database

Tutoring, Coaching

Hold regular office hours for scheduled appointments

Provide verbal and/or written feedback for student papers in terms of: grammar, syntax, vocabulary, paragraph structure, thesis construction, coherence of argument, citation and formatting style, etc.

Perform asynchronous online writing consultations using the track changes and comments features of Microsoft Word and/or Google Docs

Encourage students with constructive criticism while maintaining Fuller’s academic standards and best practices in writing center pedagogy

Develop asynchronous workshop materials and downloadable resources in a variety of subjects related to academic writing

When assigned, assist at and/or conduct real-time writing workshops

Publicity

Promote Writing Center services and events: encourage students to engage with Writing Center services, verbally inform students of services, distribute resources, etc., especially among online and regional campus students

When assigned, develop materials and represent the Writing Center at new student orientations, trainings, and other events

Continuously brainstorm ways to promote the Writing Center, particularly among online and regional campus students

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s degree (preferably in English language/literature, composition, creative writing, or rhetoric)

Working experience with academic protocol and ethos of Fuller (teaching assistant experience a plus)

2+ years experience in higher education writing, editing, and/or teaching writing (graduate level a plus)

Ability to work on a flexible schedule (volume of appointments will increase mid-quarter and climax during weeks 9 and 10, and finals week)

Availability to meet with students during daytime and evening hours, including a few weekend hours (on a rotating schedule)

Ability to work with students from different cultures and with various writing needs (including international and domestic students, and non-native speakers of English)

Current knowledge of the technical field of academic writing, including citation styles and faculty expectations for all the schools within Fuller

Excellent skills in writing and revising academic papers (familiarity with theology, psychology, and/or intercultural studies preferred)

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency in using online communication platforms like Zoom, Teams, and Google Suite; experience with Canvas and LibApps/LibCal a plus

Ability to work directly with students without supervision, yet maintain regular communication with the Director

Ability to collaborate with administrators, staff, and faculty to respond to the needs of the local and online student body

Applicant must be fully fluent in English and Korean, with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills in both languages

Must be willing to abide by Fuller Community Standards

This position is for remote work, subject to payroll state tax approval by Fuller Theological Seminary

Pay Scale:

Hourly rate the seminary expects to pay: $18.04 per hourUSD
