Radio Communications Systems Analyst, Senior The Radio & Electronics division tied to Technology Infrastructure is hiring a Radio Communications Systems Analyst, Senior to maintain reliable radio communications for police, fire, paramedics, and other city departments. The incumbent will conduct systems analysis on communication equipment, support deployment, testing, and repair of components tied to the City’s radio system, provide on‑call services, upfit city vehicles with electronics, and act as point of contact for city employees needing immediate assistance with communications equipment.

Responsibilities

Supports operations of the 800 MHz digital trunking radio system by reviewing usage, diagnostics, and performing maintenance and repairs. Generates work orders in CommSHOP 360, obtains parts, replaces components, tests, and performs preventative maintenance at multiple sites.

Installs specialized equipment in vehicles, such as lighting, lightbars, controllers, sirens, cameras, wireless access points, and communication devices.

Provides coordination of subscriber programming of established radio equipment to the trunking radio system based on communication needs of each city department. Performs system analysis using vendor software and test equipment to obtain operational data, analyze captures, monitor real‑time traffic, listen to dispatch center audio, and locate, measure, and identify interfering wireless signals.

Provides support of trunking and conventional radio systems, including dispatch console configurations for Police and Fire‑Rescue. Acts as escalation point for complex technical issues, ensuring seamless communication between internal teams and external partners.

Demonstrates strong analytical and technical comprehension skills, interpreting complex technical documentation, schematics, and mathematical instructions.

Communicates effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences, translating complex radio communication concepts into clear, actionable guidance.

Maintains compliance with safety and regulatory standards, ensuring all system operations and field activities meet applicable codes and agency policies.

Assists with deployment of new technology that supports various radio and electronics needs for city departments served by the division.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in an electrical, electronics, telecommunications, or related technical field or equivalent vocational training.

Two years’ experience in electronics and/or radio communications systems analysis.

Preferred: Motorola two‑way radio/system training or graduation from an electronics or telecommunications training school.

Valid driver’s license required for assignment.

FCC General Radio Telephone Operator’s License or NABER certification required within six months of employment.

Work Hours: M‑F 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
