Position Summary We are seeking a creative and detail‑oriented
Lighting Designer
to support Senior Lighting Designers and the Lighting Design Leader throughout the design process. You will contribute to a wide range of architectural and design projects by developing lighting concepts, performing calculations, producing technical documentation, and preparing specifications and design reports. You will also collaborate closely with project managers to meet client needs and help ensure the financial success of each project.
Responsibilities
Apply DLR Group practice standards and BIM modeling protocols to all project assignments
Develop innovative and technically sound lighting design solutions that align with project goals and codes
Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and follow the project workplan and schedule
Produce accurate, standards‑compliant documentation including lighting plans, details, and control systems
Communicate project progress and technical feedback to the team and Project Manager
Coordinate lighting design with electrical engineering and other disciplines for seamless integration
Analyze building codes, site conditions, and design concepts to inform lighting strategies
Utilize Revit, lighting design software, and spreadsheets to generate and support project deliverables
Conduct quality assurance on your own work and ensure design intent is maintained throughout documentation
Participate in team meetings, knowledge sharing, and design reviews to support continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the practice of lighting design
2+ years of professional experience in lighting design or a closely related discipline
Proficiency in Revit; experience with AGI32 preferred
Ability to use spreadsheets, PDFs, and other tools to produce clear design recommendations
Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical drawings, models, and documentation
Familiarity with materials, methods, and tools related to building and site construction
Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to clearly present lighting concepts
Ability to manage multiple tasks across various projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Lighting Certification (LC) or equivalent preferred
Working knowledge of lighting science and technology, including its practical application in design
Awareness of relevant laws, building codes, energy codes, sustainability guidelines, and industry regulations
