Expressive Therapist (MS/MA Art, Music, Drama) – FULL TIME

position.

Job Summary Provides Art, Music, Recreational, or Drama Therapy services to patients in one or more program units within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment plans. Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include safe therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living.

Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital is dedicated to behavioral health and psychiatric support for children and teens ages 3 to 17. We treat every patient with compassion, respect, and use evidence‑based approaches to instill hope for patients, families, and the community.

Responsibilities Provide expressive therapy services as outlined above; work with multidisciplinary team; maintain safe therapeutic milieu; manage crisis interventions; support daily living activities.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

One year working with psychiatric/mental health populations, preferably inpatient setting.

Licensure/Certification:

Expressive/Recreative Therapy Certification (or certificate‑eligible) preferred; Lifesaving and/or water safety instructor certification desirable.

Knowledge:

Case management, discharge planning, group leadership, age‑specific development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory, psychosocial assessments, collaboration with staff and community agencies. Strong organization, oral and written communication.
