Library Assistant Specialist – Williamsburg

We are looking for an enthusiastic, service‑oriented individual to join our team. The position focuses on delivering outstanding service to guests of all ages, including assisting with circulation, answering questions, recommending materials, and helping with technology. You will also maintain library collections, support outreach efforts, and assist with operational tasks that ensure the branch runs smoothly.

Open Position Details:

Rate: Minimum $14.00 per hour
Pay Grade 3, non‑exempt
40 hours/week

Responsibilities

• Interact directly with library users of all ages at the circulation and reference desks.
• Use the library automated circulation system to circulate materials and perform clerical tasks.
• Answer library users’ reference and reader’s advisory questions in person and on the telephone, using materials in a variety of formats.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the materials collections, services, and trends in library services.
• Shelve materials as necessary.

Qualifications

• High school degree with three years of relevant experience.
• Skilled in using technology, computers, and software applications, including Microsoft Office products, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
• Familiar with electronic resources for reference and reader’s advisory assistance, programming, statistical reports, and communication.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Establishes and maintains an excellent working relationship with library staff, volunteers, and guests, respecting diversity and all ages.
• Must pass a background check and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as shelving and organizing.

Operating Hours

• Monday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Tuesday: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
• Wednesday‑Thursday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Friday‑Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Sunday: Closed
