Collections Strategist Librarian – UNC Greensboro Position Number: 998696 Functional Title: Collections Strategist Librarian Position Type: EP – EHRA 12 mo leave earning Location: UNC Greensboro, North Carolina Posting Date: Best consideration on Monday, December 1, 2025 Position Summary UNC Greensboro University Libraries invites applications for the Collections Strategist Librarian position. Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the librarian will manage central collection development funds, lead strategic collection building, and coordinate with library partners to ensure the collections meet the university’s teaching, learning, and research missions. Key Responsibilities Manage the library’s central collection development budget (annual budget $3.5 million) and up‑to‑$1 million in one‑time funding for new collections. Administer the selection and renewal of electronic resources and additional collections resources in consultation with the Collection Management Team. Craft and implement strategic collection development plans, budget planning, and management practices. Lead and manage resource access activities, including evaluating vendor offers, licensing review and negotiation, and facilitating access to licensed content. Pilot and assess new collection development approaches informed by emerging scholarly publishing landscapes and open‑access resources. Engage in and support consortial partnerships, and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and departmental stakeholders. Incorporate data‑driven and user‑focused assessment methodologies to analyze the library’s collection program, including usage, cost, and other relevant data. Design interpretive reports and data visualizations that communicate how the library develops its collections. Serve as the primary contact for collection assessment activities that may include program reviews, accreditation reports, and internal assessments. Provide leadership for collections space planning and supervision of collection staff (one librarian and one support staff member). Communicate collection decisions and policies to subject librarians and faculty partners. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of three years of professional experience in building and managing library collections in physical and digital formats, including fund management. Demonstrated evidence of successful implementation of data‑informed strategies. Experience working with library consortia. Evidence of success working independently and collaboratively in planning, coordinating, and implementing effective projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to develop and align collection strategy with local priorities. Knowledge of emerging practices, standards, and trends in academic library collection development and management. Skill in reading, interpreting, and negotiating license agreements.
