Job Title Instructional Designer – Houston, TX
What You’ll Do
Design and develop training materials that translate technical procedures, safety standards, and operational best practices into effective learning experiences across multiple delivery modalities.
Support technical skill development while contributing to leadership, soft‑skills, safety, and employee engagement programs that strengthen the organization’s culture and core values.
Deliver e‑learning modules, classroom courses, simulations, videos, and job aids for technician and field workforce.
Apply adult learning principles, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and instructional‑design methodologies to create impactful learning experiences.
Build interactive digital content using authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, or similar platforms.
Partner with the Director of Training to define training paths aligned with role‑based competency models and qualification cards.
Structure modular content that supports onboarding, progression, and ongoing professional development.
Conduct needs analysis and interview subject‑matter experts across Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and Quality.
Collaborate with the Technical Writer to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency between procedures and learning materials.
Manage content within the company’s Learning Management System (LMS), including version control, tagging, and reporting.
Use Kirkpatrick Model or similar frameworks to assess training effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
Create visual assets—graphics, diagrams, infographics, videos—that enhance comprehension and engagement.
Support the development and maintenance of templates, design guidelines, and quality standards for all learning materials.
You’ll Make An Impact By
Designing and developing learning materials that support technician and field development, including e‑learning modules, classroom courses, simulations, videos, and job aids.
Applying adult learning principles, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and sound instructional design methodologies to create effective learning experiences.
Building interactive digital content using authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, or similar platforms to provide engaging and effective learning experiences.
Partnering with the Director of Training to define training paths aligned to role‑based competency models and qualification cards.
Structuring modular content that supports onboarding, progression and ongoing professional development.
Conducting needs analysis and content interviews with subject‑matter experts (SMEs) across Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and Quality.

Managing content within the company’s Learning Management System (LMS), including version control, tagging, and reporting.
Using the Kirkpatrick Model or similar Frameworks to assess training effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Creating visual assets (graphics, diagrams, infographics, videos) that enhance comprehension and engagement.
Supporting the development and maintenance of templates, design guidelines, and quality standards for all learning materials.
You’ll Sweep Us Off Our Feet If You
Have experience developing learning content in industrial, utilities, or energy environments.
Are familiar with technician training programs, safety standards, and field operations.
Bring experience with LMS administration and learning analytics.
Have exposure to leadership or soft‑skills program design.
Can produce multimedia content (e.g., video editing, voice‑over, graphics).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3–5 years of experience in instructional design, learning development, or technical training.
Demonstrated ability to design and develop learning materials using tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Captivate, or Camtasia.
Strong grasp of adult learning theory and ADDIE or SAM methodologies, and principles of engagement for technical audiences.
Experience translating technical or procedural information into learner‑friendly formats.
Strong writing, visual design, and organization skills.
Experience managing projects, timelines, and multiple concurrent deliverables.
Instructional Design Expertise: Applies learning theory and design methodologies effectively.
Technical Proficiency: Uses authoring and multimedia tools to develop engaging content.
Project Management Skills: Manages multiple development projects simultaneously with attention to deadlines and quality.
Collaboration Skills: Works effectively with cross‑functional teams and subject‑matter experts.
Attention to detail: Ensures accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all learning materials.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment.
Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Must be able to travel periodically to job sites and remote locations to meet with SMEs and cross‑functional partners for training development, content validation, and field observations.
