Development Communications and Digital Specialist (Donor Engagement) Title: Development Communications and Digital Specialist

Hours: 40 hours – Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST.

Location: Must be local to Massachusetts; travel onsite a few times per week to the hospitals or Corporate HQ in Burlington, MA.

Job Overview This position coordinates communications activities with donors and prospective donors at Tufts Medicine, including Tufts Medical Center, Lowell General Hospital, Melrose Wakefield Hospital, and Tufts Medicine Care at Home.

Produces digital communications to support fundraising initiatives, including email campaigns, online donor forms, and other web-based assets using fundraising customer‑relationship management (CRM) applications.

Collaborates with development stakeholders and third‑party design team to project‑manage the production of development communications collateral to enhance donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship activities in support of fundraising priorities of the institution.

Ensures all departmental communications are within brand standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.

Two (2) years of relevant experience in development, communications, marketing, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of relevant experience in development, communications, marketing, or a related field.

Experience with web‑based editing and a donor CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) system.

Experience in project management.

Experience working with creative agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Partner with development and marketing/communications teams to plan, execute, and track web‑based communication campaigns.

Use CRM tools to build and deploy emails, online giving forms, and other web‑based assets supporting fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

Produce content for development communications, working with faculty, staff, the development team, and third‑party vendors to highlight research, programs, and clinical excellence using written copy, video, photography, and graphic design.

Ensure communications are relevant, engaging, on‑brand, and user‑friendly; create opportunities for donor engagement and recognition.

Write proposals, marketing collateral, and case materials, gathering content from development colleagues and existing material through outreach and interviews with program staff.

Translate complex medical concepts into clear lay language.

Create infographics and brief videos to enhance creative online storytelling.

Write and edit annual and impact reports, eblasts, and mail collateral, including internal communications.

Collaborate with development staff to execute reports and proposals that reflect brand standards.

Develop project‑management schedules for creation and development of communications materials, including setting agendas, writing meeting summaries, and monitoring next steps; collaborate with and oversee work by third‑party vendors.

Provide copy support for other development activities, including event programming and collateral.

Stay current on strategic plan and fundraising priorities, creating messaging that reflects these priorities.

Partner effectively with marketing/communication colleagues to align projects with strategic priorities.

Assist or collaborate on general communication projects as needed.

Physical Requirements

Generally sedentary; may involve walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment.

Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.

Ability to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or read normal type‑size print; distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.

Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

Skills & Abilities

Adheres to ethical standards in fundraising and HIPAA.

Effective collaboration and teamwork.

Excellent writing skills.

Skilled in web‑based technologies, including CRM, email marketing campaign distribution, and basic HTML knowledge.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to manage expectations & negotiate challenging situations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Intermediate skills in computer publishing and design programs.

Knowledge of SEO to elevate web presence.

Experience in nonprofit development, preferably at an academic medical center.

Compensation Base pay ranges reflect the minimum qualifications for the role. Individual offers are determined by a comprehensive approach considering relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity.

Pay Range: $66,397.24 – $82,991.27.
