NH Hunger Solutions (NHHS) is an anti‑hunger advocacy nonprofit focused on systemic change to end hunger in New Hampshire. The Director of Communications and Grassroots Policy will lead NHHS’s messaging, advance legislative priorities, and mobilize a statewide community to advocate systemic anti‑hunger solutions. Responsibilities
Communications and Media Content
Oversee communications and public relations, using a multi‑channel strategy to advance NHHS’ policy goals. Primary media contact and spokesperson (with the Executive Director). Oversee all content development and ethically collect community stories. Support fundraising and development efforts. Manage and optimize all digital platforms (website, social media, email) for public engagement and grassroots mobilization. Ensure consistent brand voice and an equity focus across all external communications.
Policy Advocacy and Grassroots Mobilization
Develop and implement comprehensive legislative and administrative advocacy strategies (with Executive Director). Monitor, analyze, and track anti‑hunger legislation, drafting testimony and advocating directly with legislators and state agencies. Recruit, train, and mobilize advocates and community leaders across the state for legislative and community action. Support messaging within food access coalitions across the state. Develop informed, culturally competent policy recommendations based on community input and best practices.
Management and Operations
Supervise the Communications Coordinator and Policy Consultants. Manage grant‑related project work plans and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field with 3+ years’ experience in strategic communications and public relations. Ability to lead media relations, manage a digital presence, and create compelling content for advocacy campaigns. Proven management skills: manage staff and projects, consultants, and use strategic thinking to set and measure outcomes. Understanding of NH legislative process. Exceptional written, verbal, and public presentation skills, with the ability to relate legislation and complex content to the public. Experience in policy, advocacy, grassroots organizing in NH preferred. Preferred: experience in advocacy for systemic change, food security, and child nutrition. Contact
