Architectural Specifications Writer

Full-time | $110,000–$135,000 + annual bonus

Are you energized by building clarity, structure, and systems within a growing design practice? Do you enjoy diving into technical details, organizing information, and helping multidisciplinary teams deliver high-quality work?

A successful, growing architecture firm is seeking an Architectural Technical Specifications Writer to support our expanding portfolio of civic, community, education, and commercial projects. If you’re experienced in creating architectural specifications or you’re an emerging architect with a strong technical mind and a passion for improving and innovating workflows, we’d love to meet you.

What you can expect:

• A collaborative, supportive team culture where people stay, grow, and feel valued.

• A thriving pipeline of meaningful, community-focused projects.

• A firm that is large enough to be stable, but small enough that your contributions matter.

• Flexibility to shape the systems, tools, and processes used across the office.

• Leadership that invests in your professional development and encourages curiosity.

• Optimize use of current and new technologies to improve workflow and coordination

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in the intersection of technical design, organization, communication, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain project specifications across a range of architectural building types.
  • Collaborate closely with project architects, designers, and consultants to ensure alignment between drawings and specifications.
  • Support the creation of office standards, templates, and systems for quality control.
  • Help project teams stay ahead of code updates, material changes, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with building reusable spec content and improving internal workflows.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to the technical quality of deliverables.

Qualifications

We welcome candidates with a range of experience levels who bring strong technical thinking and a talent for creating clarity and structure. The strongest candidates will have:

  • 5 + years of architectural experience, with exposure to construction documents, detailing, or technical coordination
  • Experience producing architectural specifications (or a strong interest and aptitude for learning specification writing)
  • Familiarity with CSI formats, MasterSpec, or SpecLink is a plus
  • A solid understanding of building materials, systems, and how buildings go together
  • Strong communication and coordination skills when working with architects, engineers, and consultants
  • A knack for organizing information, creating templates, and improving workflows
  • Curiosity, precision, and a growth mindset—paired with the ability to work independently and support multiple project teams

If you’re unsure whether you meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply. Aptitude and enthusiasm matter just as much as direct experience.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Clear communicator and strong collaborator
  • Highly organized, methodical, and detail-driven
  • Enjoys learning continually and staying updated on industry standards
  • Able to work independently while supporting multiple project teams
  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking clarity

Compensation & Benefits

  • $110,000–$135,000 base salary DOE
  • Annual performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Life insurance and professional licensing reimbursement (ARE, AIA, etc.)
  • Generous 401(k) with employer match
  • Continuing education budget (~2% of salary annually)
  • Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates
