Special Education Teacher - Visual Impairments (VI)
The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) invites applications for a full‑time Special Education Teacher – Visual Impairments position in the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) SELPA. The role focuses on students aged 3 to 21, providing instruction in general and special education settings, including pull‑out, push‑in, and home-based environments as outlined in IFSPs/IEPs.
Job Overview
Provide individualized instruction to students with visual impairments, collaborate on IEP planning meetings, and serve as part of a multidisciplinary team conducting assessments, interpreting ophthalmological evaluations, and developing intervention plans.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction to students with visual impairments in SELPA settings.
- Participate in IEP planning meetings and provide family/staff consultation.
- Conduct assessments, interpret ophthalmological evaluations, and write intervention plans.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support student needs.
- Support students in natural learning environments per IFSP/IEP directives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in visual impairment or related field (graduate studies preferred).
- Experience working with students from birth through 21 years of age.
- Demonstrated experience as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong understanding of visual impairment interventions and strategies.
Certificates, Licenses & Credentials
- Valid Education Specialist credential with authorization in Visual Impairment or equivalent issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Valid English Learner authorization/CLAD certificate or equivalency.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid certification (highly desirable).
Application Materials
- Resume detailing education and experience.
- Letter of Introduction.
- Two signed, current Letters of Recommendation dated within the last year.
- Copy of Education Specialist teaching credential with a Visual Impairments authorization (or equivalent).
- Proof of CLAD certification/English Learner Authorization if not included in the credential.
- Copy of transcript or degree verifying bachelor’s degree in visual impairment or related graduate studies.
- Copy of Eligibility for Intern Credential letter, if applicable.

Stipend & Benefits
A stipend of $4,500 will be paid after three years of consecutive full-time service for hired unit members on or after July 1, 2018 who hold state certification and serve in qualifying roles.
Position is also eligible for Article XV: Salary, Section 2.C.5.B of the negotiated Agreement between SDCOE and SDCAE.
