Medical Reporter/Editor, Neurology (Contract)
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid – In office Tues/Wed/Thurs)
Contract Length: 6 months, with potential for extension or permanent conversion
Hourly Rate: $40/hr
Conversion Salary: $80,000
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Reporter/Editor to join the Neurology news team. This 6-month contract role focuses on reporting and writing original medical news and feature content for a neurologist audience, while also editing a defined segment of research briefs and freelance contributions.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in health or science journalism, familiarity with neurology and neuroscience topics, and the ability to translate complex research into engaging, clinically precise content.
This position reports to the Senior Editorial Director, Neurology, and collaborates closely with a team of editors in a fast-paced, virtual newsroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and write original Neurology news and feature stories based on peer-reviewed studies, conferences, and expert interviews.
- Identify emerging trends, controversies, and practice-changing research relevant to neurologists.
- Review and interpret complex clinical data and communicate findings with accuracy and clarity.
- Edit and manage a segment of neurology research briefs, ensuring accuracy, readability, and appropriate clinical framing.
- Edit and provide feedback on selected freelance Neurology news submissions.
- Collaborate with Neurology editors on content planning and coverage priorities.
- Work efficiently under tight deadlines in a collaborative, hybrid newsroom.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Neuroscience, Biology, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in medical or science reporting (Neurology or Neuroscience preferred).
- Strong ability to interpret clinical research and write for a professional audience.
- Excellent writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience editing research-based or short-form content for accuracy and tone.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a hybrid or virtual setting.
