Summary
Reports to the Team Lead Scientific Communications within Pfizer Oncology Medical Strategy Management.
Leads development and execution of impactful scientific communication strategies for assets across therapeutic areas.
Builds cross‑enterprise relationships, acts as a strategic thought partner, and aligns communication activities with oncology priorities.
Subject‑matter expert in one of the following: Therapeutic Area (TA) Scientific Communications, Data Disclosure (Publications), or Medical Content.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic oversight of TA scientific communication activities and overall communications objectives and narrative.
Integrates stakeholder input into strategic planning and ensures alignment with Pfizer Oncology objectives.
Coordinates with cross‑functional teams (Medical, Data Analytics, AI, etc.) to align communication plans with medical priorities.
Serves as the point of contact for Global Product Teams and medical franchises in engaging the external medical community on clinical trial data and key disclosures.
Provides functional guidance and subject‑matter expertise to TA medical teams.
Manages budget, financial projections, and agency/out‑sourcing relationships.
Builds collaborative relationships with partners inside and outside Medical for channel‑specific TA communications.
Navigates complex stakeholder matrices to lead cross‑category initiatives and benchmark best practices.
Stays abreast of U.S. regulations impacting digital delivery of scientific information.
Focus Areas Therapeutic Area Communications
Develops and maintains Scientific Communication Platforms (SCPs) aligned with broader narratives.
Leads engagement plans with key opinion leaders, HCPs, and decision makers.
Creates global medical narratives and FAQs, collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders.
Data Disclosure (Publications)
Executes data disclosure plans, including plain‑language summaries and publication content.
Manages author reviews, publication processes, and chairs Scientific Publication Committees.
Collaborates with clinical study teams to determine publication content and supports global product teams.
Content Focus
Leads content strategy, projects, and digital initiatives across all medical content.
Delivers global and regional medical content for field, congress, and digital platforms.
Oversees creation of field content aligned with TA and regional/local Medical Affairs needs.
Defines and delivers TA training content.
Qualifications / Skills
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 years relevant biopharmaceutical/biotech or agency experience.
Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MS, etc.) preferred.
Experience developing strategic scientific communications and supporting scientific exchange.
Strong understanding of Medical Affairs, disease areas, and objectives.
Excellent interpersonal skills and matrix leadership experience.
Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, digestible communications.
Strong written and oral communication skills for varied audiences.
Organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Experience in regulated environments delivering compliant, innovative scientific content.
Experience representing a function in a matrix organization with presentation and customer‑facing skills.
Experience with omnichannel content development (publications, plain‑language summaries, congress materials, podcasts, etc.).
Experience with scientific peer‑reviewed publications.
Candidate Profile Demonstrates diverse leadership experience, including influence, collaboration, development of others, and business impact.
Work Schedule, Travel, and Environment
Non‑standard work schedule, travel required (~20% including U.S. and ex‑U.S. locations).
Work location: Hybrid.
Salary and Benefits The annual base salary ranges from $204,700.00 to $341,100.00. Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan (bonus target 22.5% of base salary) and long‑term incentive program. Benefits include 401(k) plan with matching contributions, retirement savings contribution, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits (medical, prescription drug, dental, vision). Salary ranges for Tampa, FL: $184,200.00 to $307,000.00. Relocation assistance may be available.
