Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment‑style living for approximately 2,200 students that is safe, clean and very convenient.
Under the direction of the Executive Director and Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) Management Personnel Plans (MPPs), the Marketing and Communications Specialist II develops and implements communication, public affairs and/or marketing programs, outreach, and engagement initiatives that promote housing, dining, and residential engagement. The initiatives include website management, social media scheduling, marketing and communications, promotional materials, student hiring and oversight, workshops, training programs, events, and participation on department committees. The Marketing and Communications Specialist II oversees the HRE publications, both print and digital, and supervises graduate and undergraduate students on the Marketing, Outreach, and Communications team. Supports collaborations with campus partners and student organizations that seek to address and support housing operations and residential engagement. Other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above Marketing Communications Professional Series - 5 may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Under general supervision, creates engaging content and develops and implements marketing campaigns, communication plans, and initiatives. Applies professional level knowledge of the marketing and/or communications fields, including working knowledge of a specialty area. Collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance the university's brand image, promote programs and achievements, and engage with internal and external audiences. Works independently on most day‑to‑day assignments with general supervision on new assignments or projects to ensure alignment with objectives. Handles multiple work priorities and is accountable for own work results. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Experience in photography. Knowledge of campus and community resources for students. Experience supervising students, interns, or volunteers. A forward thinker in marketing and communications. Able to use standard office equipment and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook). Work independently and effectively as part of a team; exercise tact, discretion, and good judgment; handle sensitive and confidential information; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and possess strong computer skills including word processors, spreadsheets, and databases. Knowledge and experience with social media (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.), and creative design programs / software (Canvas, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, etc.).
