Broadcast Engineer (OPS)

Location: Tallahassee, FL

Responsibilities

Live event engineering, including signal distribution, equipment repairs, installations, storage, and maintenance supporting live sports broadcasting and in‑venue entertainment.

Report to the IT Manager; work primarily with Seminole Productions.

Manage hardware and software for FSU Athletics, Seminole Boosters, and Seminole Productions.

Provide engineering support for live sports broadcasts and in‑venue productions; manage signal distribution in server rooms, production control rooms, storage spaces, and venues.

Configure broadcast equipment: setup, strike, routing, and patching of sources and destinations; Dante and physical audio; fiber and optical camera connections; multiview configuration; communication panel configuration.

Troubleshoot systems, including network and fiber connectivity.

Assist with equipment maintenance, repair, installation, and future purchase forecasting.

Support live production operators with troubleshooting during events.

Assist Athletics Information Technology tasks.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or post‑high school education and experience equal to four years in a relevant field.

Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to individuals of varying skill levels, even in high‑pressure situations.

Strong written communication skills.

Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify, analyze, and devise solutions.

A valid Florida driver’s license is required.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Sit for long periods of time.

Bend, squat, stand, crawl, climb.

Walk for distances.

Reach above shoulders.

Handle objects (dexterity).

Push/pull.

Carry/lift 25–75 lbs.

Exposure to excessive noise, marked changes in temperature or humidity.

Work in confined quarters.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with Ross Acuity, Ross Xpression/Dashboard, Evertz Magnum, Yamaha Mixers, Dreamcatchers, RTS, or Panasonic cameras.

Prior work within an athletics department.

Typical Day On event days, the candidate arrives prior to crew arrival to set up the room and engineering equipment, assists with troubleshooting and engineering tasks until the show goes on‑air, and may stay for the event’s duration. On non‑event days, the role involves repairs, maintenance, cleanup of engineering items, and preparation for the next broadcast.
