The Shreve Memorial Library (LA) Board of Control seeks an experienced library leader to shape the library’s future. The system includes 21 branches and an administrative center, a mobile library, and a staff of 154 full‑time equivalents. The library serves Caddo Parish, population over 240,000, and offers public programs including Author Faires, Children’s Book Festival, One Book One Parish, and ArtBreak.

Key initiatives for this role will include fostering a positive staff culture of inclusivity, implementing the technology plan, executing a system‑wide capital improvement plan, building upon existing community partnerships, and forging new connections to expand opportunities for library users.

Responsibilities

• Direct the operations of the 21‑branch library system and develop library policies for the Board of Control.
• Lead tax elections, bond issues, and other funding initiatives; manage the detailed budget and communicate fiduciary needs to the board.
• Develop the overall vision, goals, and objectives of the library; oversee capital programs; analyze and improve public services, facilities, technology, staff development, and communicate trends to the board.
• Make decisions concerning personnel, application of policies, and maintenance of facilities, systems, and grounds.
• Represent the library in the community and at governmental and professional meetings; cultivate a courteous, competent, customer‑focused environment welcoming the public.

Qualifications

• MLIS or MLS from an American Library Association accredited institution.
• At least five years of full‑time library professional experience, with at least two years in an administrative capacity (e.g., director of a medium‑sized library system or assistant/associate director of a large system).
• Certification by the Louisiana Board of Library Examiners, or ability to attain certification within the first year.
• Clean driving record with no DWI violations in the last five years and no other moving violations in the last year.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $100,000 – $140,000 per year.
