Position Overview
As KTAR Traffic fill‑in reporter, you will play a critical role gathering relevant information such as crashes, road construction and breaking traffic news to report for anchors. You will also regularly deliver traffic reports as scheduled. This position is also part of the KTAR newsroom and is an on‑call opportunity for a broadcast professional eager to contribute to a winning team and the traffic department.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and company discretion.
This position is onsite, requiring regular work at our Phoenix site.
What You Will Do
- Weekday mornings (5a‑9a), middays (9a‑3p), afternoons (3p‑7p) as traffic editor or reporter, or both; weekends (8a‑4p).
- Utilize traffic cameras, official social media sources, police scanner monitoring, and internal Bonneville resources to deliver traffic news on air.
- Gather and provide a running list of problems on Phoenix‑area roads, freeways, and situations affecting traffic for KTAR Traffic Center staff.
- Effectively and appropriately use social media to present traffic updates via all available media channels.
- Respond to on‑call opportunities during KTAR News holidays and when full‑time staff take vacation.
- Contribute to news coverage by pitching or entering potential traffic stories.
- Work in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Skills And Experience We Are Looking For
- Minimum of 1 year of traffic reporting or producer experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with conversational yet professional news delivery.
- Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or Newsboss Audio Editor is a plus.
- Knowledge of news software Newsboss preferred.
- Multilingual skills preferred; Spanish language speaking and writing preferred.
- Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award‑winning news radio station.

Physical Demands
- Ability to fill‑in on as requested by traffic supervisor or news director.
- Process and maintain information through oral or written communication effectively.
- Substantial physical movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye‑hand coordination.
- Lift, move, and carry up to 20 lb. on occasion.
