Work Schedule: Hours will vary between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm depending on availability and scheduling needs.

Job Overview

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. We are seeking someone who can teach Photography both in-person and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

This position is located in Virginia. Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate to ensure consistent, reliable attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach specific classes in Photography.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.
  • Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.

Essential Functions

Provide quality instruction, meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach prescribed courses with established texts, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in Photography.
  • Ability to effectively teach in classrooms and online.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to use instructional technology.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Work experience in the field.
  • Experience with online teaching.
  • Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution.

Operation of a State Vehicle: None. No Supervises Employees. No Required Travel. May be required to travel between different college locations.
