Join IndyStar, an award‑winning newsroom, as a Motorsports Reporter II. The role reports to the assistant sports editor and focuses on coverage of IndyCar and other motorsports events based out of Indianapolis. You will produce high‑value storytelling across all delivery forms, including social media, podcasts, video, television, and online.
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities will focus on coverage of IndyCar and all other motors sports based out of Indianapolis.
- Assist in coverage of big events (NCAA events, etc.).
- Be a curious, assertive and self‑starting journalist who jumps to report on breaking news and trending topics with urgency.
- Harness social media and messaging platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Reddit, as news gathering tools.
- Optimize stories for target audience groups using SEO and metrics information.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of professional journalism experience, with experience on a major beat preferred.
- An entrepreneurial approach to growing audience and a dedicated following.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to take photos and record video/audio in the field.
- Solid news judgment that’s guided by experience with audience metrics.
- Strong sense of journalism ethics and grounding in basics of media law.
- Commitment to reporting with fairness, compassion and sensitivity.
- Command of AP style and dedication to accuracy.
