Job Summary: Supports and executes the business goals of various departments as assigned through marketing and communication initiatives. Assists in the development and execution of the Village’s strategic communications plans. Responsible for creating compelling content for a variety of internal and external communication channels, including press releases and social media. Requires collaborating effectively with staff at all organizational levels, ensuring clear and consistent messaging while maintaining discretion and confidentiality. Responsible for carrying out the Village’s brand, mission and key messages to our various constituencies including residents, associates, community members and media using a variety of tools. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
Description Full‑Time, 40 hours per week
Non‑Exempt, Hourly
Essential Job Functions
Carrying out the writing of associate communication vehicles to ensure effective communication and enhance the sense of community; supports associate buy‑in of JKV business goals and initiatives.
Collaborating with the graphic designer on various communications projects, providing oversight and direction on layout and design to ensure alignment with brand standards and project goals.
Developing promotional materials. Working with outside advertising agencies, contractors, and other JKV departments to develop high‑quality professional materials at the best value; serving as key liaison and project manager with the in‑house design team or freelancers on assigned projects with internal clients.
Writing and distributing news releases announcing JKV initiatives, achievements, and resident‑appropriate milestones.
Acting as liaison for the Village to foster strong media relations with local and national media contacts.
Working closely with all levels of the organization to ensure consistency and clear messaging while safeguarding sensitive corporate information with the utmost discretion when writing and distributing any needed crisis communication.
Writing and editing brochures, annual reports, manuals, award nominations, sales materials, and other publications to carry out key Village messages, brand, and mission; supporting revenue‑producing areas through written copy.
Maintaining and providing accurate and updated information on a variety of internal and external online sources such as the Village Voice online, MyJKV, JKtV, the John Knox Village website, corporate blog and social media sites.
Taking photos and videos to be used online and in printed materials.
Coordinating and working with resident volunteers.
Handling stress well and getting along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
Maintaining acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
Adhering to all safety regulations and requirements.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
Education ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
BA or BS in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field required.
Five to seven years of marketing or public relations experience required.
Experience
Experience in senior living industry preferred.
Possess strong writing skills with a variety of styles, including AP.
Strong editing skills required.
Experience working in or with an advertising/public relations agency or in‑house advertising/marketing/public relations department preferred.
Knowledge And Skills (required Unless Otherwise Noted)
Essential aptitudes include the ability to work with people, strong organizational skills, project management, patience, initiative, problem solving, concentration and judgment.
Intermediate keyboarding skills.
Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.
Understanding of website content management and ability to make updates.
Intermediate understanding of social media.
Ability to effectively work in a team setting.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations is required.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Possess a strong work ethic.
Demonstrate a high level of integrity.
Uphold a positive attitude.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily office environment – may be quiet to bustling.
Group/meeting environment (with associates and/or residents).
Occasionally in resident homes.
Occasional exposure to outside weather (heat, cold, snow, rain) in going from location to location on campus.
Some special event/trade show type environment (inside and outside).
Frequent driving using personal vehicle for travel around campus.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing, walking and sitting are required.
Frequently uses hands to handle and key data.
Occasional climbing and balancing are required.
Frequently reaches with hands and/or arms.
Frequently stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls.
Occasional need to lift up to 50 pounds.
Hand/neck in static position.
Left/right rotation and bending to side, forward and backward.
Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
