The South Bend Tribune, part of the USA TODAY Network, is recruiting for a business, development and dining reporter in South Bend, Indiana.
The ideal candidate will become the recognized expert in growth and development in the South Bend region, with a keen interest in the vibrant local food and dining scene. We need a great storyteller who will tell several stories a week, collaborating to incorporate video and other visual ideas as well as words. You should be interested in both personal stories and overarching trends. Be ready to quickly turn breaking stories while developing enterprise stories in the background.
You should be adept at source development, digital tools and using public records.
It is an exciting time to cover the South Bend region, with tens of billions of dollars in development recently completed, underway or in the works. The region also boasts four of Indiana's only six restaurants rated Four Diamonds by AAA, and also a rich blend of restaurants enriched by offerings from numerous immigrant communities from around the world.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- Digital-first mindset
- Demonstrated skill for a range of storytelling, from real-time digital updates to narratives to investigative reporting, employing alternative story forms and multimedia
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Flexibility and collaborative mindset
- Candidates should have facility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance their journalism
