Full time, regular position with up to 10% travel within the continental United States.
Opportunity
Create and modify 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks and other CAD tools.
Produce detailed technical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, specifications, and material requirements.
Collaborate with engineers, product development teams, and other stakeholders to develop concepts and refine designs.
Manage design changes, including creating and tracking engineering change orders (ECOs) and revising documentation.
Ensure designs are accurate, cost-effective, and meet project requirements.
Maintain and organize CAD files and revision history.
Design and document packaging for complex subsystems that combine optical, photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements for U.S. government customers.
Administer, maintain, and optimize SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM environments.
Manage user accounts, permissions, group policies, and license distribution.
Generate, maintain, and organize a library of standard parts for use across multiple programs.
Act as liaison between PLM/ERP teams for CAD-related integrations and data workflows.
Develop, implement, and enforce CAD and PDM standards, templates, libraries, and best practices.
Qualifications Required:
At least seven (7) years of mechanical design and drafting experience using CAD software, with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
Robust understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering processes, CAD data management, and configuration control.
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), stack‑up analysis, and mechanical drafting standards.
Strong attention to detail, organized files, and commitment to documentation accuracy.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and applying these principles to improve product manufacturability.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Desired
Technical diploma, degree, and/or professional certifications related to SolidWorks and 2D/3D mechanical design.
Experience in optical and electronic subassembly layout, including board physical design, chassis or enclosure design, optical fiber routing, and electrical and optical connector selection.
Experience with gimbal systems or other precision motion control mechanisms for applications in optical systems or robotics.
Experience in designing hardware to meet military and space design standards and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with SolidWorks and PDM administration and licensing environments.
Pay Range: $68,400‑$143,700
