This is skilled and specialized work for heating, ventilating and air‑conditioning controls. Responsibilities
Operate and maintain complex automated controls for heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems. Write, analyze, and edit programmable control language for building automation systems. Maintain pneumatic and electronic controls for heating/cooling systems. Install and maintain energy management panels and components. Ensure safety of students. Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation. Attend meetings and seminars as required. Provide proper care of tools and equipment. Perform emergency service during and after regular hours as assigned by supervisors. Be responsible for locating and securing needed parts and supplies from stock. Submit all forms and reports required in a timely manner. Assist in preventive maintenance as assigned. Keep HVAC control systems in peak operating order. Perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC pneumatic and electronic (low voltage) controls systems and their mechanical components. Repair and calibrate controls including thermostats, and other HVAC controls. Use testing and analysis equipment for low voltage electronic circuitry and pneumatic calibration, CRT screens and keyboards for systems analysis, data entry and retrieval. Repair and service air‑conditioning/air‑handling control equipment, i.e., air dryers, electronic and pneumatic temperature controls and electronic/pneumatic controls. Install, maintain and repair analog and digital sensors, electronic and pneumatic, for HVAC equipment and related low voltage wiring and integral pneumatic for same to microprocessors. Perform tasks in accordance with standard practices of temperature control relating to energy conservation. Perform work assignments from written and/or oral instructions, using blueprints, sketches, and automation systems printouts. Install conduit, wire, cable, equipment, components, and devices associated with building automation systems. Calibrate and set up electronic and pneumatic controls, devices, sensors, and components. Read, use, and update construction and control drawings and diagrams. Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections of electronic and pneumatic control systems and devices. Work with contractors in the installation of new automation installations and HVAC controls retrofit projects. Maintain work records. Assist to train employees in all applicable areas as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned by the Electrician Foreman. Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited High School or G.E.D. Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License. A minimum of five (5) years paid experience in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning systems including DDC automated system controls or an equivalent combination of paid experience, education and training. THE EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT MEANS THAT YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE UP TO 50% OF EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT WITH EDUCATION AND TRAINING. Ability to work effectively with others and to work from directions. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to listen effectively and actively. Ability to problem solve. Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings, and labels. Ability to read, analyze, and write HVAC control programs languages. Knowledge of test equipment, e.g., pneumatic, HVAC, electronic. Knowledge of the fundamentals of heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning and their respective control systems and sequences and all other components of a hydronic system. Knowledge of HVAC controls, particularly pneumatic systems and low voltage controls for conventional and automated HVAC control systems. Knowledge of Direct Digital Control System (D.D.C.) – particularly LON, LNS, and LonWorks. Knowledge of configuring and commissioning controllers, utilizing plug‑ins, binding network variables. Ability to work independently. Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and blueprints. Ability to operate computer, e.g., operating systems, file/data structure, use and application of Windows software, spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications. Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and operating fundamentals for heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning systems, including the fundamentals of load calculations, psychometrics, combustion, and energy management. Knowledge of the fundamentals of control systems, including rate, resent, and proportional action. Skilled in the use of tools, equipment, and reference materials for calibrating, balancing, and repairing pneumatic control. Competitive Examination Process
This is a classified position. The selection process will consist of a competitive examination with credit for education and experience. A passing score must be obtained on the competitive examination in order to receive credit for education and experience. TEST WEIGHTS: Competitive Examination 70%, Education 20%, Experience 10%. Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment. NOTE: The competitive examination may be suspended if shown to be impractical because of an insufficient number of qualified candidates. The candidates will then be ranked in a standard manner based on 70% for qualifying, 20% for education, and 10% for experience. Veterans
