Responsibilities
Under Class 1, meet regularly with external and internal customers to discuss and determine specific requirements to provide service, negotiate facility layout, point of service, and proposed service date using the most efficient and cost‑effective method while adhering to existing codes, standards, and policies.
Conduct field investigations; evaluate potential service alternatives; determine appropriate standards and specifications; prepare accurate construction drawings and material/labor estimates; interpret customer survey plats; assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, and reports.
Design overhead primary and secondary facilities, such as pole jobs, internal jobs, and revenue calls.
Communicate and negotiate right‑of‑way easements and permits; determine right‑of‑way clearing needs; prepare and secure appropriate right‑of‑way documents and drawings in accordance with Entergy Standards.
Coordinate assigned projects with all Entergy departments and appropriate personnel.
Approve, release, and assist/create project designs when authorized.
Follow and adhere to all Entergy safe work practices and policies, including participation in daily/monthly safety meetings.
Design construction projects involving external/internal customers, reliability and section‑type projects, with oversight for large projects by Sr. Designers or Management.
Interpret and document applicable tariffs, policies, and procedures related to the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) process.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer during the design phase and as needed after the design package has been released for scheduling and construction.
Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Distribution Design Helpers.
Qualifications
Experience and Special Qualifications – Distribution Designer Helper
Must have one of the following:
One year field operations experience (Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Field Metering, or Gas Distribution).
Two‑year technical associate degree in a related field from an accredited school OR
Minimum 60 college hours toward a 4‑year degree in a related field from an accredited school.
Experience and Special Qualifications – Distribution Designer
Must meet all qualifications of Engineering Helper or one of the following:
Three years field operations experience in Transmission Line, Substation, Distribution Line, Field Metering, or Gas Distribution.
Two‑year technical associate degree in a related field from an accredited school and two years related work experience.
Minimum 60 college hours toward a 4‑year degree and two years related work experience.
Four‑year technical degree in a related field from an accredited school.
Experience and Special Qualifications – Distribution Designer, Sr.
Must meet all qualifications of Distribution Designer and one of the following:
Four years field operations experience and two years worked as a Distribution Designer.
Qualified and worked three years as a Distribution Designer.
Possess a two‑year technical associate degree or 60 credit hours toward a 4‑year degree and two years worked as a Distribution Designer or related work.
Possess a four‑year technical degree and worked one year as a Distribution Designer or related work.
Physical Qualifications
Have full use of mental and physical faculties.
Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.
Personal Qualifications
Alert in observing hazards to help avoid accidents.
Willing to work in unusual surroundings and normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
Able to receive and execute orders and instructions in a manner that inspires respect and confidence of superiors and co‑workers.
Able to meet the public in a pleasant, professional, and tactful manner.
Able to utilize all physical and technical tools pertaining to this job.
