Instructional Designer, Training Curriculum Developer Pay Range: $65.00 - $69.00 W2 (6 month contract+)

*** HYBRID position with 90% remote and about 5 to 10% travel. Locations include Auburn, Livermore, San Ramon, Oakland, and more remote areas in the Sierras. Overnight stays are sometimes required to support client meetings.

Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment including hardhat, FR clothing and work boots about once a month.

About the Job The training portfolio for our internal Power Generation client continues to expand. We are looking to grow our Academy team to support technical upskilling of our workforce. Responsibilities

Design and develop instructor‑led and on‑the‑job training for apprenticeships in the Power Generation utilities industry such as inspection software, lock out tag out (LOTO), dam safety, instrumentation and control devices.

Leverage and apply established instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.

Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands‑on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.

Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.

Partner with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.

Define learning objectives, and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.

Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.

Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts appropriate for the target audience.

Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train the trainer.

Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.

Receive and incorporate feedback.

Self‑manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables.

Proactively communicate issues and risks.

Required Skills

3+ years’ experience developing instructor‑led training and on‑the‑job tasks for technical skills.

Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design and methodologies.

Proven experience performing task analysis.

Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.

Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver against multiple competing deadlines, as needed.

Desired Skills

Experience developing technical training for inspections, lock out tag out (LOTO), dam safety, or programmable logic controllers, and other instrumentation and control devices.

Experience with QuestionMark, Author‑It, and/or Storyline.

Utility background a plus.
