Seattle's Union Gospel Mission
As the Director of Marketing, you will be responsible for leading high‑performing fundraising teams and driving revenue growth through direct response and digital channels. This role is responsible for overseeing all marketing efforts that support donor acquisition, retention, and recurring giving—with a strong emphasis on monthly giving programs and gifts under $1,000. This role is a hands‑on position in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment and translates marketing tactics into measurable fundraising results. This position is central to scaling our donor base and maximizing lifetime value.
How You Will Serve As the Director of Marketing, you will be responsible for leading high‑performing fundraising teams and driving revenue growth through direct response and digital channels.
Acquisition
Develop and execute multi‑channel donor acquisition strategies (email, paid social, search, direct mail).
Optimize lead generation funnels and conversion paths for new donors.
Collaborate with data and analytics teams to identify high‑potential audiences and segments.
Test and scale acquisition offers, messaging, and creative across platforms.
Manage vendor relationships for acquisition campaigns (agencies, media buyers, etc.).
Monitor cost to acquire a new donor, new donor welcome series, and ROI across acquisition channels.
Direct Response Campaigns
Lead strategy and execution of direct response campaigns across email, mail, SMS, and paid media.
Develop compelling fundraising appeals aligned with mission and donor motivations.
Oversee campaign calendar, segmentation strategy, and performance tracking.
Implement A/B testing frameworks to optimize messaging, timing, and creative.
Collaborate with creative and content teams to ensure brand consistency and emotional resonance.
Analyze campaign results to inform future strategy and improve donor retention.
Digital Fundraising
Own the digital fundraising roadmap, including email, website, social media, and peer‑to‑peer.
Optimize donation flows and landing pages for conversion and user experience.
Reduce cart abandonment through retargeting, UX improvements, and behavioral triggers.
Drive monthly giving program growth through digital channels.
Implement automation and personalization strategies to deepen engagement.
Monitor and improve KPIs such as conversion rate, average gift size, and donor lifetime value.
Stay current on digital trends and tools to innovate fundraising efforts.
Other Strategic Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a high‑performing marketing and fundraising team.
Partner with internal teams to align marketing with organizational goals.
Contribute to brand strategy and storytelling to increase reach and resonance.
Manage and fulfill internal creative requests.
Lead public relations efforts as needed.
Participate in organizational meeting, training, and initiatives as required.
Perform other duties assigned to support the Mission’s success.
How You Qualify
Acknowledge and sign the Mission's Statement of Faith (see below).
BS/BA in Marketing or related field. A graduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
Minimum 10+ years’ mass fundraising marketing experience, with a proven track record of scaling donor programs and growing an active donor file beyond 25,000 annual donors.
Demonstrated success in managing and mentoring creative and marketing teams of 4 or more, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and performance.
Experience leading integrated marketing efforts that have generated annual fundraising revenue exceeding $5 million.
Deep understanding of direct response, digital marketing, advertising, photography, video production, and design—leveraging each to drive donor engagement and conversion.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods in a temperature‑controlled environment. Requires frequent use of computers, keyboarding, and talking on the telephone. Frequently uses good judgment to make decisions.
