Corporate Communications leader

What You’ll Do
You’ll drive
strategic communications and reputation leadership , combining proactive storytelling with long‑term thought leadership that advances GM’s position on innovation, economic impact, and American manufacturing. You’ll build integrated campaigns that elevate GM’s voice, reinforce our purpose, and engage audiences across channels.
Shape and elevate GM’s reputation
through smart, cross‑channel storytelling that reflects the broader news and cultural landscape.
Lead sustained communications campaigns
that build momentum over time — not just one‑off stories — to advance GM’s enterprise narrative.
Distill complex topics
into clear, compelling messages that connect with media, employees, and the public while reinforcing GM’s business priorities.
Drive thought leadership , partnering with executives to position GM leaders as credible voices on innovation, technology, and the future of manufacturing.
Spot and pitch enterprise‑level stories , from quick‑turn opportunities to long‑lead features, bringing together multiple parts of the business into cohesive, news‑worthy narratives.
Experiment with emerging platforms and formats
to amplify storytelling and extend reach beyond traditional media.
Build and sustain trusted media relationships
with top‑tier national, business, and lifestyle journalists.
Navigate complex issues
with discretion and influence, securing impactful, high‑profile coverage that moves GM’s reputation forward.
Be scrappy and tenacious , uncovering stories and building relationships across a highly matrixed organization.
Your Skills & Experience
10+ years of experience in communications, preferably within a high‑profile corporate or agency setting.
Ability to proactively develop and drive strategic communications plans while managing tough news cycles calmly and quickly.
Strong storytelling skills and a track record of securing impactful, high‑profile media coverage.
Excellent judgment — you know how to plan ahead to avoid a crisis and when to elevate issues.
Deep understanding of how business, media, and culture intersect to shape reputation.
Outstanding writing and media relations skills — you know comms is more than drafting statements, and you’re creative about finding new ways to engage.
Ability to navigate a large, complex organization and influence senior leaders effectively.
Calm, composed, and armed with a sense of humor — our work is serious, but our team likes to have fun along the way.
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to one of the locations (Detroit, MV, DC or NY) at a frequency dictated by the business.
Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
The salary range for this role is $158,500 – $242,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
