Hiring Range
$20.00 - $25.00 (non‑exempt hourly position)
This position is paid based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity, including consideration of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications compared with market rates.
About the Myers Park Library
The Myers Park Library serves a close‑knit community in Charlotte’s historic Myers Park neighborhood, near Uptown Charlotte and Queens University. As the city’s oldest library, the branch offers specialized, high‑level research assistance—particularly for college students and genealogy enthusiasts—along with daily Readers’ Advisory services and personalized technology support.
Role Overview
The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment. Responsibilities include leading age‑appropriate programs for emerging adults, adults and seniors, representing the library in the community with various partners, and collaborating with staff in Adult Services. The incumbent will also be responsible for circulation tasks, including staffing a busy information desk and serving customers of all ages.
Supervisory skills are highly desirable. The Library Associate will serve as a regular manager‑on‑duty.
Schedule
Minimum of one evening shift per week and a rotating weekend schedule.

Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value‑added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
- Programming for adults ages 18 and up
- Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
- Build and maintain relationships with outreach sites and partnerships
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Provide service desk coverage
- Maintain library’s collection of materials, including repairs, shelving, and marketing
- Promote and market library’s programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and other materials
- Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Combination of relevant education and experience accepted
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual – Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
- Experience programming for adults
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of alpha‑numeric sorting systems, various library systems, and telephone etiquette
- Strong technology adeptness
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills with attention to detail
- Adaptability, communication, collaboration, and keeping up with current developments and trends in related areas
Computer Skills
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
Work Environment
Office setting with moderate noise.
Travel
To and from outreach locations as required.
