— The New York Times is looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead projects focused on internal platforms and tooling, shaping the UX and workflows to scale our most essential business capabilities. Our Platforms teams build the underlying technologies that power our products and business at scale. You will lead design initiatives across Messaging Platforms focused on building our email and push notification tools to support our Editorial and Marketing teams in reaching the right readers at scale. You\'ll use your interaction design skills to further build a new MessageHub flagship tool, while using research and service design to understand the systems, processes and workflows of different teams and translate them into intuitive, scalable solutions. This is an individual contributor role. Senior Product Designers are expected to deepen product knowledge, sharpen design skills, and contribute as emerging leaders within the team. The role is hybrid and based in New York City. Responsibilities
Collaborate on high-level product strategy, ensuring we ask the right questions and solve for distinct needs. Work with engineers and product teams to ensure design quality and consistency of shipped flows and interactions. Create documentation (e.g., user journeys, experience maps, wireframes, frameworks) to lead conversations, build alignment, and inform decisions. Take product ideas and hone them into multiple solutions and concrete approaches, then collaboratively narrow ideas and establish requirements. Contribute to team and product design rituals. Nurture the design team, inspiring and mentoring teammates and enhancing processes and documentation. Report to the Design Director in Platforms Product Design. Basic Qualifications
A portfolio of work that showcases your design process along with finished design work. 5+ years of experience designing digital web or app products. 3+ years experience designing interactive products or tools. 1+ year of service design experience or working on platforms. Proficient in design tools such as Figma. Proficient in prototyping tools such as Play, Cursor, Gemini Canvas, Retool, Figma. Experience facilitating alignment through workshops, brainstorms, and collaboration. Preferred Qualifications
Experience or enthusiasm for designing services, workflows or tooling for internal users. Experience navigating and translating complex technical systems. Experience conducting lightweight user research. Experience designing or conceptualizing large solutions while aligning user and business goals. Strong ability to show design decisions and impact.
