Base pay range $92,611.00/yr - $120,400.00/yr

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

English Language Proficiency:

You must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)

Education Requirements:

You must possess a master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

Doctoral degree in Social Work:

May NOT be substituted for the master's degree

License or Certification:

You must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level

Grandfathering Provision:

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)

Licensure Requirements:

Senior Social Worker GS-0185-12 – must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level with an advanced generalist or clinical examination (unless grandfathered; except for California)

Experience Requirement:

At least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure, including one year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, in a specialized area of social work practice

Examples of specialized experience:

Assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, intimate partner violence; use of clinical social work skills; maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality; advocating with community service providers; independently assessing psychosocial functioning; and demonstrating advanced practice skills and judgment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skill in specialized interventions and treatment modalities; advanced level counseling or psychotherapy; complex differential diagnosis; outcome evaluation; consultation to colleagues; policy writing; oral and written communication

Preferred Experience:

Licensed within discipline; individual and group psychotherapy; VA experience; PCMHI and/or primary care setting

Full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12 with actual selection at GS-12

Physical Requirements: Suitable for typical occupation; no pre-placement exam required

Duties

Provide psycho-diagnostic services including psychological testing and evaluations for patients within VATVCBHCS in areas of specific interest and scope of expertise; refer to PCMHI psychologist for guidance.

Conduct comprehensive diagnostic interviews, review records, collateral contacts, and administer objective and cognitive tests when indicated.

Offer therapeutic interventions—group and individual—using empirically supported modalities within scope of expertise; refer to PCMHI psychologist as needed.

Deliver services face-to-face and/or via telehealth.

Consult and serve as resource for other professional personnel regarding goal setting, evaluation, and development of psychological services within VATVCBHCS; may represent Psychology Service on committees or work groups.

Coordinate programming with mental health and primary care managers and discipline supervisors as needed.

Assist or lead research activities related to program evaluation.

Serve as clinical supervisor for employees in lower grades and unlicensed social worker interns.

Prepare and teach seminars/workshops for VATVCBHCS trainees on relevant topics.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM.
