Telecommunications Design Specialist
– State of Iowa, Executive Branch
We are looking for a people leader to engage and motivate our outstanding employees as our newest Telecommunications Design Specialist. Your experience and knowledge will help fulfill our mission of making lives better through transportation.
Location:
Ames
Shift:
7:00 am–3:30 pm, 5 days a week (some travel required)
Responsibilities:
Oversee and coordinate the Iowa DOT Radio and Wireless Communications Technologies Section and act as the Lead Worker.
Provide weekly contact with staff to review and plan work and be actively involved in Maintenance Leadership meetings.
Assist the Bureau Director and Electronic Engineering Technician in planning the budget and project workflow.
Research and develop new radio and other wireless communications technologies.
Continuously evaluate all radio communications equipment, tower equipment, buildings, and auxiliary equipment for proper operation.
Act as the AASHTO Frequency Coordinator for the state, responsible for interpreting and complying with FCC rules and regulations.
Special Requirements:
Driver's license required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a degree in any field and experience equal to four years of full‑time work in one or a combination of:
The construction, plant, commercial, or marketing section of a telephone company;
Professional electrical engineering design and/or maintenance of communications systems and equipment;
Government or private industry where the primary responsibility involved the planning, designing, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
All of the following: Four years of full‑time work experience (as described above) and a total of four years of education and/or full‑time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited coursework equal one year of full‑time experience.
