Job Summary/Description An IT Specialist/Broadcast Engineer is responsible for day‑to‑day hands‑on maintenance of the technical infrastructure that supports all live, recorded programming, and post‑production at WMTV. The role performs quality control measurements to ensure proper video and audio quality for all broadcasts, assists in field productions, and addresses team needs. The engineer supports all aspects of Broadcast, Network, and Computer operations, maintains FCC and Gray TV standards, and delivers industry‑leading customer service.
Duties / Responsibilities
Support engineering aspects of the technical facility, including studio support, post‑editing systems, field production support, and transmission of live or recorded events and programs.
Perform regular maintenance on broadcasting and computing systems, and implement changes, repairs, or upgrades as required to maintain peak system performance.
Read, edit, and explain schematic drawings, blueprints, and other vendor‑provided support documents to implement critical engineering projects.
Learn and implement new skills quickly, responding to changing priorities with a strong sense of urgency.
Support all aspects of breaking news gathering, severe weather, and new system integrations, which may require working odd hours, weekends, and holidays.
Maintain a working knowledge of computer operating systems, updates, and networking, including maintenance and repair of computers, servers, and networking equipment.
Display and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, communicate effectively, be self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and customer‑focused.
Support facility needs, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and CCTV systems.
Qualifications / Requirements
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
SBE or IT certifications are a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of video/audio systems.
Working knowledge of news and television automation systems.
1–2 years of professional IT experience preferred.
Ability to self‑motivate and see projects through to completion.
Strong leadership and independent skills with an ability to thrive in high‑pressure situations.
